Gigantic, oaken doors are so very last century. Not even last century, in fact, because their hay-day was so much earlier than that. I remember when our castle in Romania was first built and gigantic oaken doors were an absolute must. Every discerning castle owner simply had to have them, or people would talk. They’d whisper as they walked past the hill, gossiping about the cheapskate who went for slightly smaller, timber doors. We had oak from the get-go, of course, and it served us well for many years.
Now, in Australia, the pendulum has swung back, and I’m ready to embrace it. It’s time for timber door replacements. Experts in Melbourne are hot on the trend as well, and well up to the challenge of installing gigantic timber doors into our castle-mansion. And look, I’m aware that the appearance of timber doors is a little bit contrary to what our family has often stood for. They’re stylish, chic and not particularly intimidating. But we’re not in a castle anymore; we’re in a castle-mansion, and as times change, so must we. Knocking on a timber door might not produce quite the booming ambiance, but it’s something we’re going to have to get used to. Maybe we’ll go totally crazy and just install an intercom like everyone else… ha ha!
I’m considering some other types of window replacement, but we shan’t go crazy. Perhaps I’ll let my wife sort out the exact window styles, with her eye for design. My only request is that we retain the stain glass in the dining hall, depicting our family’s history. That always puts me in a good mood. Window replacement companies, Melbourne being as cosmopolitan as it is, should be able to handle that.
Overall, we’re due an update. Let’s aim for a nice split: 50% castle, 50% mansion, all style.
